Coaches and their high school teams from CT, NY, MA and RI are invited to register for the 9th Irv Black High School Invitational on Friday (3:30pm), May 3, 2013 and Saturday (10:00am), May 4, 2013. The meet is open to coaches and their high school age athletes competing on their high school team from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. There is a CIAC Border sanction for the meet with NY, MA and RI. Please review the meet website for all details and registration deadlines.
There is also a pending NFHS Sanction for inclusion of high school teams from New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine since the site is hosting the 2013 New England Championships in June. |

The Irv Black High School Invitational was renamed in honor of Irv Black, the former Meet Director and Head Coach of New Britain High School and founder of Northeast Sports Timing. The original Big B Invite was created by Coach Black in the 1970's as a multi-day invitational that offered more than the standard events. The meet was later renamed the Ernest Brainard Interscholastic Track and Field Meet and held at Trinity College for many years. After the passing of Coach Black in the summer of 2010, the meet was moved to the Willowbrook facility in New Britain where the stadium bears his name. The meet is under the guidance of a committee of several New Britain residents with ties to the former coach and friend. (See the additional news article about Irv Black at MySportsResults.com). |
