 Meet Information

Welcome:

You are invited to the 38th Annual Hartford Public High School Invitational Outdoor Track and Field Meet will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 commencing at 9:30 am at the Veterans' Stadium, located at Willowbrook Park in New Britain CT. The meet is open to all high school age athletes competing with their high school team according to the sanctions listed below.

Sanctions:

Sanctions have been obtained by the National Federation of High Schools for Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine, Virginia, Washington D.C., Kentucky, Delaware and Canada.

Facility:

The Irv Black Track at Veterans' Stadium in Willowbrook Park in New Britain CT is an 8-lane, 400m Mondo track, including the runways for the long jump, triple jump and pole vault. It is recommended that 1/4-inch spikes be used. Spikes in excess of 1/4-inch will not be allowed on the running track and/or runways. The shot put and discus competition areas are depressed concrete circles.

Rules and Entry Limits:

  • ONLY COACHES can register their teams/athletes in HeadCount (ALL OTHER ENTRIES WILL BE REJECTED - THIS INCLUDES ENTRIES BY ATHLETES). Coaches MUST accompany their teams and athletes at all times. 
  • Athlete may be entered in only three (3) events, including relays. Entry as an alternate counts as one of the athlete's three (3) events.
  • Limit of 2 entries per event per school,
  • * 2008 Special Standards in Distance events provide for multiple entries.
  • * Limit of 6 entries in the Mens/Womens Hammer Throw
  • * Limit of 5 entries in the Women's pole vault.
  • Limit of ONE relay team per event, No B teams.
  • * Special Standards in 4x800m provides for multiple team entries.
  • If you want to have your athlete considered for the seeded heat of the 800m, 1-mile, 2-mile, 3000mSC and 4x800m Relay then you must enter the Meet and Date the performance mark was attained so that the events are seeded fairly.
  • 1600m Sprint Medley Relay is open to all states.
  • Four Throws and Jumps; no marks recorded under minimum standard.  

Registration and Event Entry:

  • Online Intent to Enter Deadline is 6pm Eastern, Sunday, April 26, 2009 in order to meet to NFHS sanctioning rules.
  • Online Head Count Athlete Event Entry Deadline: 6pm Eastern, Sunday, May 3, 2009
  • ALERT: No entries will be accepted after the event entry deadline. No phone-in or FAX entries/updates will be taken. There will be absolutely no athlete additions or changes (except for scratches) to an event on meet day.
  • Email scratches accepted until 12-noon Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Email following information to meetadmin@mysportsresults.com – School Name, Coach's Name, Athlete's Name, Event(s) Scratched.
  • Scratches accepted in person until the start of the meet at 9:30am. After the start of the meet, any athlete who is scratched from an event or who fails to show for an event is scratched from the remainder of the meet including relays. 
  •  

Entry Fee Procedures:

  • Entry Fees are due by Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
  • Entry fees are charged for entering the meet.
  • You owe for each entry made online.
  • All Entry Fee Balances MUST be reconciled before the start of the meet in order for a team to compete, Purchase Orders and school checks are tolerated.
  • No refunds of event entry or timing surcharge fees for scratches or "no-shows"
  • Timing Surcharge Fee:

    • The Omega Timer from North East Sports Timing Services will be in use for this meet. In order to defray the cost of operations we will have to attach a surcharge of $10.00 to each school entering the meet.
    • Please make this a separate check payable to: Hartford Public High School and mail with your Entry Fee

    Event Entry Fees:

    • Event Entry Fees of $10.00 for each individual event entered and $20.00 for each relay event entered. Ex: If you plan to have 4 athletes in 1 event each and they are also in 1-relay then your total event entry fee is: 4x$10 + $20 = $60.
    • There is a minimum team fee of $35.00 for a team or one individual.
    • Please make both Entry Fee and Timing Surcharge checks payable to Hartford Public High School

Practice Time/Facilities:

  • The Hartford Public High School track facility will be available at all times however, hurdles and other equipment will not be available after 5:00 PM. Throwing circles are of depressed concrete.
  • The Veterans' Stadium facility in New Britain will also be available until 5:30pm.

Doctor and Trainer:

  • A trainer or doctor will be available for the convenience of all the athletes entered in the meet.

Implement Check:

  • All implements must be checked in by an inspector prior to use in the meet. Violators will be disqualified for using implements that have not passed meet inspection.

Awards:

  • Watches to winners of all events!
  • Medallions awarded to the next top 5 finishers.

Special awards include:

  • Heisman-type Trophies to the meets top performers and Loving Cups for the meet's MVPs..
  • Best in Relays
  • Larry C Amann Boys Mile
  • Joela Marshall Girls Mile
  • Men's Javelin, Hammer, 100M, 800M, 3200M.
