 Final Instructions for Coaches-Athletes

Final Instructions for Coaches at the 4th CT Middle School T&F Championship
Dear Coach,

Thanks for making the effort to bring your team to the 4th Connecticut Middle School Track and Field State Championship at Rockville High School, Vernon, CT. We have worked overtime to attempt to put together a quality meet. Please review the list below with athletes and parents.

Buses will drop athletes off at the second entrance to the school and park in the rear area of the parking lot. I advise teams to bring shelter and set-up in the bleachers or outside the discus throwing area nearest the bus parking lot (East Field) We can’t block the emergency path for the ambulance or the 4 x 800 course that runs outside the track. Don’t forget sun block.

Absolutely no coaches are allowed on the infield. High jump is on the infield. Please get marks for your athletes before the 9:00 deadline. The long jump is contested behind the far bleacher area. Shot and disc are outside the track area, so those events should not pose a problem with “coaching”

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS- Times are approximate.

7:30- 8:45 Check-in

Please submit your USATF waiver forms in alpha order to registration. Tables will be arranged to accommodate schools and clubs by alpha order. A-C, D-G, H-N , O-Tol., Tom.-Z. Any athletes on your start list that do not have a USATF waiver form are scratched from the meet. You will receive a ticket that will allow you to pick-up your race #s

1) Pick up your race #s and packet. Fill out a snail mail envelope for an entry form next year. Please fill out a name tag and wear this all day. Only coaches with name tags are allowed to pick-up medals. Report any scratches at this time, so we have time to reseed the track events. Track events take precedent over field events. Please assign the correct competitor number to each athlete. Only athletes competing will be allowed in the track area. Starting blocks and batons will be available. All shots must be weighed. 6 lb. for girls, 8 lb. for boys will be the standard weight.

2) Make sure your athletes check-in to get a hip #, 2 events prior to their event. Hip numbers should be worn on the left hip directly on the in-seam of the shorts. Heat #s and A or B (relays only) will be marked on the hip # to avoid confusion. Athletes will enter at the east end of the track and be escorted to the start area for their particular race. They will exit at the west end. Please note: the start for the 4 x 800 is directly across the track from the press box. I could use assistance in the 4 x 800. Email me if you can help at mmdcbend@comcast.net . Please note: In “B” relays, I am asking coaches to pick-up hip #s for your 4th runners to avoid confusion, especially teams like McGee and Illing that have more than 1 relay team in the race.

3) Spikes may be worn. Length should not exceed 3/16” I do not advise spikes for the 4 x 800. There is a stretch of tar path on the course.

4) Awards table is at the west end of the track. Only coaches with badges will be allowed to pick-up awards. Ribbons are available to all competitors who did not win a medal. Coaches please pick these up on your honor. All kids deserve an award for trying.

  • T-shirts will be on sale for $15.00
  • Admission is $5.00 for spectators and includes a program. Kids 12 and under free.
  • Custom engraving of medals will be available for a small fee.
  • A full concession stand and the Little Jimmy’s Italian Ice truck will be available for all your edible delights.
  • 2 certified trainers will be available for the entire meet.
  • A score board with a running score of the meet by event with all teams entered will be under the press box. Please note: Track Clubs are eligible for individual awards, but not in team scoring.
  • An award presentation area with a beautiful backdrop painted by Manchester High School art students will be placed past the finish line. Please use this area to take pictures of your athletes with their medals!!!!
